Substance MisuseThe aim of the Addictions Treatment Programme is to attain the best possible outcome by facilitating the person's recovery from addiction. Individuals are assisted in gaining insight into alcohol and addiction problems. Helping the family and other concerned persons to gain more understanding of addictions and how to cope with the person's recovery is also a priority.
Following detoxification, the focus of treatment is to support the drive towards recovery and wellbeing. New coping skills and behavioural strategies are examined and put in place. An effective way of achieving this is to involve the family and concerned others in the treatment programme.
The group treatment program provides a period of association with other people who have a problem of dependency, allowing for reflection on the nature and extent of the problem and the development of recovery.
Addiction
Support Groups
The following alcohol and other addiction groups meet at our hospital:
An essential feature of the treatment programme is designed to address the effects which addiction has on family and other relationships. One day each week is dedicated to helping family members and other concerned persons to come to terms with the problem of addiction.
The results of research indicate that intensive inpatient or outpatient treatment is bolstered by a structured aftercare programme. The Aftercare Programme requires the person to attend once a week for two years. Links may be made as required to other agencies.
Our highly specialised teams are multi-disciplinary in nature and comprise consultant psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, addiction counsellors, occupational therapists, registered nurses, therapists and chaplains.
