Referral - Inpatients
Saint John of God Hospital provides a service to and takes referrals from the country as a whole and provides an inpatient facility for the Community Psychiatric Service for South East Dublin based at Cluain Mhuire, Newtown Park Avenue, Blackrock.
Admissions policy and procedures are governed by the Mental Health Act 2001, and influenced by recommendations from various professional bodies regarding optimal approaches to psychiatric care.
Requests for the emergency or elective admission of patients to the hospital are made by the patient's General Practitioner, medical staff of another hospital, external consultant or consultant attached to St. John of God Hospital. General Practitioners referring new patients to the hospital are offered the facility of discussing the admission with the Registrar or Consultant on call.

Requests for admission of patients of the Community Psychiatric Service
for South East Dublin based at Cluain Mhuire, must be arranged through
the catchment area teams.
The hospital does not run a walk-in assessment unit.

It is essential that a patient knows their level of insurance cover as
all policies vary and they may include certain exclusions or excesses. Where
there is a shortfall on your policy, you will be required to pay this on
admission, an estimate of the cost can be provided to you by the Accounts
or Admissions Office at 01-2771400.
All Hospital accounts are required to
be settled on admission.
