Dr Simon Mitchell is a Consultant Psychiatrist at St John of God Hospital, specialising in Mood Disorders. He is the lead clinician for the hospital's Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and Neuromodulation service and has extensive experience in treating Resistant Depression. He has experience in medical leadership, teaching and training other doctors, and service development and held an associate clinical director role for several years. He is a member of the Clinical TMS Society, an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Higher Education and has received several Clinical Excellence awards.

Education & Experience:
Upon completing his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Psychology in Trinity College Dublin, Dr Mitchell completed his studies in Medicine in the Royal College of Surgeons in 2006.
He completed his initial clinical training with the St John of God Hospital Scheme and was awarded membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2011.
In 2012, he moved to Cambridge to complete his Higher Specialist Training and was involved in several research projects examining a variety of disorders within the Department of Psychiatry in the University of Cambridge.
He was appointed Principal Investigator for several clinical trials in Treatment Resistant Depression during his NHS role, having been appointed Consultant in 2015.
He was appointed medical lead for Mood Disorders in Cambridge and set up one of the first Esketamine clinics in the UK. He has expertise in neuromodulation (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation).
Dr Mitchell was appointed as a Consultant in St John of God Hospital in 2023.
